Upgrading Your Timer

Our products are designed to be fully upgradeable.  The TURBO Timer can be upgraded to up to 8 lanes and it can be upgraded to a double-sided display.  The Turbo Lite can be upgraded to any version of the TURBO timer.  And our legacy product, the DTX000, can also be upgraded to up to 8 lanes.  Scroll down to find the section you are interested in.

Upgrading the TURBO Timer

The TURBO Timer can be upgraded in two ways.  You can support additional lanes by adding Bridge and Lane Modules as needed. It can support a total of 8 lanes.  You can also add extra Lane Modules to the back side of your existing modules so that your system will be double-sided.

Adding Additional Lanes to TURBO Timer

If you are adding more lanes to your system (maximum of 8), you will need:

  • one Bridge Module for every two additional lanes
  • an extra IR Emitter for each new lane
  • one extra lane module (the numbers that light up) per each new lane
  • bridge support brackets to support this extra bridge (you must select the correct size of your track (3.25", 3.5", 3.75", 4.0") as well as the number of lanes you need these supports for. (3-4, 5-6, 7-8 lanes).

Click here to go to the Upgrade Catalog to order this extra equipment.

 Making Your TURBO Timer Double-Sided

You can also add extra lane modules to make your display double-sided (seen from both sides).  Click here to order extra lane modules.

Upgrading the Turbo Lite Timer into a TURBO Timer

The Turbo Lite Timer can be upgraded to a TURBO Timer.  It can support a total of 8 lanes. To upgrade to a TURBO, you will only use the Timer module and AC Adapter from the Turbo Lite setup and add everything else, so any Turbo Lite can be upgraded to any number of lanes just by purchasing the correct upgrade kit.

To order your Turbo Lite to TURBO Upgrade Kit, you need to know the lane spacing of your track (measure from the center of lane 1 to the center of lane 2 and go across the track) and how many lanes you are upgrading to.

Each upgrade kit will contain the correct number of bridge sections, lane modules, IR emitters that you will need, plus one set of bridge support brackets, U brackets and a 3V Distribution Board.  The kits range in price from $106 to $355, depending on the number of lanes you are upgrading to.  Click here to go to our Options page and scroll down to the bottom to order a Turbo LIte:TURBO Upgrade Kit.

Product Upgrades For DT1000 & DT2000 Timers

upgrade kit

Both of our original timers, the DT1000 and the DT2000, can be upgraded to support more lanes.  You can upgrade any time - whether one year or several years down the road.  There is no deadline to upgrade.  It is an available option for those who may have a one or two lane track today but are thinking of a larger track in the future.  The upgrade is available to all who purchased their product since Sept 1999.  DerbyTV can be added onto any timer purchased after October 23, 2000.

Upgrading the DT1000:

If you upgrade the DT1000 to a DT2000, the timer will operate on two lanes.  The DT1000 to DT2000 Upgrade kit is $40 and includes the DT2000 chip, removal tool, labels, manual, and installation instructions.  Click here to upgrade a DT1000 to a DT2000.

You may also upgrade the DT1000 to the DT8000 and then the timer will work on tracks with one to eight lanes.  The DT1000 to DT8000 Upgrade kit is $100 and includes the DT8000 chip, removal tool, labels, manual, and installation instructions.   Click here to upgrade a DT1000 to a DT8000.

Upgrading the DT2000:

The DT2000 can be upgraded to the DT8000 and then the timer will work on tracks with one to eight lanes.  The upgrade kit for the DT2000 to DT8000 is $60 and includes the DT8000 chip, removal tool, labels, manual, and installation instructions.  Click here to upgrade a DT2000 to a DT8000.

How easy is it to upgrade the DTX000 product line?

The upgrade is simple.  After you order the upgrade, you will receive a chip removal tool, labels, new manual, and installation instructions.  Just open up the timer and replace the chip with the new one, as per the instructions.

How do I know which timer to buy or upgrade to?

You should look at three key points:  number of lanes you need now, number of lanes you may need in the future, and the cost of the timer/finish line you are considering.

The neat thing about our products is that you are not stuck with your original choice in lane size if you choose to get a bigger track later on.
